JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — When dogs and cats escape their owners, rescuers and community members rely on identification markers like ID tags to get them home. But maybe your dog's collar came off, or the ID tag doesn't have your latest phone number — next up is to scan for a microchip.

The Jacksonville Humane Society and Jacksonville Animal Care & Protective Services are teaming up with a local low-cost clinic, EveryPet , to help get hundreds of Duval County animals microchipped over the weekend.

EveryPet's Norwood Avenue location, normally used as a spay and neuter clinic for both community cats and pets, will host a special microchipping event on Saturday, Nov. 29.
