It’s as refreshing as it is rare to see a major political leader admit a big mistake, so we give Gov. Mike DeWine credit for coming to the realization that legalized sports betting in Ohio was ill-advised.
The governor told the Associated Press if he had it to do again, he would not sign legislation that made gambling on sports legal here.
During the debate over legalization of sports betting it was easy to justify the change as inevitable because of the take in neighboring states where sports betting was already legal and because politicians concluded they could regulate legal betting and drive out the illegal sports betting that has always been present.
Now that he’s seen it, Governor DeWine understands illegal gambling can’t advertise, and the advertising helps hook many Ohioans who
