Sri Lanka has closed government offices and schools as floods and landslides wreak havoc across the country leaving 56 people dead.

The country has been hit with heavy downpours that has flooded buildings and infrastructure and caused landslides. The heavy rains have also caused reservoirs and rivers to overflow, blocking roads.

The government said schools and all government offices will close on Friday, November 28 as weather conditions worsened in the tropical country .

More than 25 people were killed on Thursday, November 27, in landslides in the Badulla and Nuwara Eliya regions, about 300 kilometers (186 miles) east of the capital, Colombo.
