HONOLULU (Island News) -- Hawaiʻi is starting the week with mostly stable weather, as shallow clouds sit over the islands in this morning’s satellite images. A bright, hot spot can be seen over Kīlauea, showing strong heat from its recent eruptions. These eruptions are sending more VOG into the air, creating hazy skies that may last through at least Thursday.
A weak high-pressure ridge is sitting over the islands, keeping the atmosphere stable. Weather balloon readings from early this morning show a temperature inversion at about 5,000 feet. This low inversion prevents clouds from growing tall, which means fewer clouds and very limited showers across the state. Light winds from the southeast will continue, allowing normal daytime sea breezes to form on each island.
