The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah begins next month. Here's what to know and how to greet those who celebrate.

Hanukkah – sometimes spelled Chanukah, Chanukkah, or even Hanukka – is an eight-day Jewish celebration that typically occurs in December. It is known as the "Festival of Lights."

Although its timing often coincides with the Christmas season, Hanukkah is not actually the "Jewish version of Christmas," as some may believe. The holiday commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem .

Typically marked with flickering candles, fried foods, and Hebrew songs (and sometimes gift-giving), the holiday is beloved by children and adults alike.
