WAIANAE, Hawaii (Island News) -- An intoxicated man was arrested in Waianae on Thursday evening after an officer was attacked when responding to a reported pedestrian accident.

Honolulu police received a report around 6:40 p.m. about a pedestrian accident on Lahaina Street in Waianae. Police said a man who was “highly intoxicated” interfered with firefighters and paramedics at the scene and kicked one of the police officers.

The officer who was attacked was injured but has been treated and is now doing well. The suspect, a 43-year-old man, was arrested for a first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer offense.

Witnesses told police there was no collision and that a man was in the road and punched a passing driver.
