An Uber driver has been left hospitalized in a critical condition after he was was shot by his passenger in California on Thursday night, local media has reported.

The 40-year-old victim was shot in the back of his head, according to several local outlets, including YourCentralValley citing Fresno Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of South Tupman Street & East George Avenue at around 8:15 p.m.

The ride-share driver picked up his passenger before they asked to get out of the car. Shots were then fired inside the vehicle, YourCentralValley reports.
