Last season's matchup between in-state rivals Georgia and Georgia Tech went eight overtimes.

But this year's matchup on Saturday, Nov. 29, from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta could have even bigger College Football Playoff implications. The No. 4 Bulldogs (10-1) and No. 19 Yellow Jackets (9-2) face off in what could potentially be a CFP play-in game.

A Georgia victory likely assures it a first-round bye in the CFP. A Yellow Jackets win — while likely not enough to exclude the Bulldogs from the CFP — could open the door for both Georgia teams to place in the 12-team field.

Last season, the Bulldogs rallied late to earn the victory in the eighth overtime on a Nate Frazer 2-point try. Georgia trailed by as much as 17-0 in the first half, putting its CFP hopes on the line. Georgia Tech's last win against Georgia in football came in 2016, when the Yellow Jackets earned a 28-27 victory on Nov. 26, 2016, in Athens, Georgia.
