On. Nov. 6, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office received an order to hold Steven Heinrich, 27, for violating his probation from a conviction in Westchester County, New York.

Heinrich had been convicted in New York for violating a protective order against a girlfriend. He was in jail in East Baton Rouge for allegedly battering another girlfriend, Stasy Charles, a 23-year-old LSU student, the previous day.

But when the parish jail received the order, Heinrich's bond had been posted nine minutes earlier, and he was released that evening.

After hearing of his release, authorities in Westchester County called in a welfare check on Charles the morning of Nov. 7. She allegedly told officers she was aware of Heinrich's release, and he had not contacted her.
