A 32-year-old man riding a bicycle died Thursday evening after he was struck by a minivan on 103rd Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to FHP, the crash happened around 6:20 p.m. near Blanding Boulevard.

Troopers said the bicyclist was traveling northbound on 103rd Street, and the minivan was traveling westbound in the middle travel lane.

According to FHP, the driver of the minivan saw the bicyclist trying to cross the street in a non-crosswalk area, and when she saw that, she tried to move out of the way into the left travel lane.

As she moved into that lane, the bicyclist was trying to turn around to avoid the minivan and other incoming traffic, but couldn’t do it in time, resulting in a crash.

The bicyclist, from Jacksonville, died at the scene.
