The mayor of Haldimand County has apologized for leaking confidential documents but continues to deny she was responsible for an attempt to meddle in February’s provincial election in favour of her political ally, MPP Bobbi Ann Brady.
The written apology from Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley, dated Nov. 5, appeared in Norfolk’s council agenda on Tuesday.
It came two months after Haldimand council endorsed integrity commissioner David Boghosian’s recommendations to dock Bentley four months’ pay and require her to publicly apologize to Norfolk Mayor Amy Martin, who ran for the Progressive Conservatives and finished a distant second to Brady.
“I have been directed by Haldimand County Council to apologize,” Bentley’s letter began.
