NORMAN — There’s a solid argument to be made that every power league contest this season, beginning with Michigan in Week 2, was the most significant of OU coach Brent Venables’ head-coaching career at the time it was played.
Entering his fourth season at the helm, Venables was at or near the top of most coaching hot seat lists, fresh off a second losing campaign in three years and facing the nation’s toughest schedule. He took a $1 million pay reduction, bringing his salary this season from $8.55 million to $7.55 million.
