(WKYT) - In the lead-up to America turning 250 years old, we are looking back every day at ‘This Day In History.’
On this day in 1925, the Grand Ole Opry started broadcasting live music from its home in Nashville, Tenn.
An article from the History Channel says it was originally named “The Barn Dance,” inspired by a Chicago radio show that launched the year before.
The grand Ole Opry aired on Saturday nights, bringing folk, fiddling and country for Americans.
The four-and-a-half hour program became one of the South’s most popular broadcasts.
