The Department of Transportation’s latest idea for reviving a “Golden Age of Travel” would be funny if it weren’t such a perfect example of how disconnected Washington can be. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy wants Americans to “dress with respect” before heading to the airport – as if pajama pants at the gate are the biggest problem facing travelers today.
Let’s get real. That so-called golden age Duffy keeps reminiscing about wasn’t some civilized utopia. Flying back then was so expensive that only the wealthy could afford it. Of course they were wearing suits and gloves – they were dressing the part because air travel was a luxury, not a cramped, nickel-and-dimed necessity.
Today, most travelers are just trying to get through an exhausting, increasingly unpleasant process. Flights
