MAUMEE, Ohio — Maumee City Council member Chelsea Ziss will be the next person to lead the city following the upcoming resignation of Jim MacDonald, who was elected to the position in 2023.

In a press release, a city spokesperson said Ziss will be sworn in as the city's mayor on Dec. 1. She was named City Council President on Wednesday, after city councilmember Gabe Barrow stepped down from his position as council president. Barrow stepped down during the same meeting, following MacDonald's announcement that he would be retiring from the position prior to the completion of his term. This was preceded by the approval of a motion permitting council president to step down while remaining a city council member.
