Hunters went five for 12 for a success rate of about 42% during the special East Grand Forks city archery deer hunt that began Saturday, Nov. 15, and wrapped up Sunday, Nov. 23.

That’s one less than last year’s inaugural season, when 10 hunters took six deer for a 60% success rate.

Hunters this year shot “less (deer) than I expected, to be honest,” said Jeremy King, superintendent of the East Grand Forks Parks and Recreation Department. The East Grand Forks Police Department and the Parks and Recreation Department coordinated the controlled hunt in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Hunt organizers offered 12 tags this year – nine antlerless and three either-sex permits – and the hunting area was expanded with the addition of another zone along the East Gran
