The first Research Chair in Pediatric Epilepsy has been created at CHU Sainte-Justine in Montreal. The goal is to better understand the causes of the disease and find better treatments for those affected, particularly by improving the control of epileptic seizures.
The research chair was officially launched on Friday at CHU Sainte-Justine, thanks to the determination of two parents who lost their son to refractory epilepsy.
In memory of Édouard Boivin, who was only nine years old at the time of his death, Claude-André Boivin and Laurence Gauvin-Couture created a foundation in 2021 bearing their son’s name. They raised $2.5 million, which was used to establish the new pediatric epilepsy research chair.
