Like many Americans today, I am deeply concerned about our nation’s health. For decades, we have trusted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as the leading authority on food and drug safety. We rely on the FDA’s rigorous review process to ensure that the medicines we take are both safe and effective.
Given the FDA’s critical oversight role, I find it alarming that compounded GLP-1 (weight-loss) drugs are being sold to the public without the same scrutiny or regulation as FDA-approved medications. These compounded drugs bypass the established regulatory system and are not required to meet the same manufacturing standards.
