Grieving is a long and painful process. Those filled with pain and anger can say things they regret.
But something else seems to be happening as U.S. President Donald Trump uses the killing and wounding of two National Guard members in Washington this week to endorse “reverse migration” and call for America’s most restrictive immigration measures yet.
Given Trump’s track record, the policies (or edicts, or rage-fuelled threats) announced in a late-night social media rant look less like a politician lashing out in anger and more like someone seizing on an opportunity.
A permanent pause on migration from “all third-world countries”; removing those judged to be “not a net asset” to the U.S.; deporting those who are “noncompatible with western civilization.”
