A winter storm warning has been issued in southern Minnesota ahead of a "long duration" storm system that could drop up to 10 inches of snow.

The warning is in effect across Minnesota's southernmost counties, a line that includes the cities of Rochester, Mankato, Marshall, Albert Lea, Fairmont and Worthington, with National Weather Service-Twin Cities forecasting 6-10 inches of snow in the worst-affected areas.

A winter weather advisory is in effect in the Twin Cities, which is also expected to see accumulations of 3-6 inches over the course of the storm, with the highest amounts in the south metro.
