The familiar sound of ringing bells has returned to Emporia storefronts, signaling the start of the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle campaign. The holiday fundraiser, now underway at several local retail locations, plays a crucial role in supporting the organization’s year-round services.

“It’s money that just helps us do the mission of the Salvation Army,” said Captain Mylie Hadden. “We have a food pantry that's very well supported with food donations in this community, and then we have emergency rental and utility assistance that we provide. Those are the two big things we do.”

Hadden said the need for assistance hasn’t changed, but rising uncertainty in 2025 continues to push more families into difficult circumstances.
