CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — An Amtrak train headed for Detroit was evacuated safely on Thanksgiving after it lost power in Marengo Township, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office (CCSO).

Around 8:40 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a disabled Amtrak train near the City of Marshall.

Deputies said the train, which had 107 passengers, lost engine power and became immobile during severe winter weather conditions.

Deputies and partner agencies worked together for several hours to ensure everyone stayed safe throughout the incident.

Passengers were evacuated from the train cars and transported by Marshall Public Schools Transportation buses to the Amtrak station in downtown Battle Creek.

The remaining passengers were transferred to a second Amtrak train that got to the scene.
