The Opposition says Labrador has “tremendous” untapped mining potential, but it needs more power in order for development to expand.
Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair MHA Lisa Dempster and energy critic Fred Hutton met with Amanda McCallum of Mining NL last week.
Dempster says the MOU would provide the power Labrador needs to expand mining development.
Premier Tony Wakeham says the Upper Churchill and Gull Island will be developed, but he expects an independent review of the current MOU to take place before it’s given the green light.
That’s led to concerns about the timing and the impact of any potential delays in getting the deal finalized.
