The town of Harbour Grace is planning a big celebration next May to mark two special occasions.

The town’s statue of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart was brazenly stolen last spring and was missing for months before being recovered – in pieces – in a wooded area off the Heart’s Content Barrens in August.

Since then sculptor Morgan McDonald has been working to make the necessary repairs and as Economic Development Officer with the town, Matthew McCarthy says, made some changes to prevent the statue from being cut up.

He says a steel frame has been built inside the statue and the footings will also be reinforced.

Security cameras have also been added to the park.
