BUTLER COUNTY, Iowa —
A man is receiving medical care after exchanging gunfire with an Iowa State Patrol trooper Thursday morning.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says the shooting happened near the intersection of C13 and Franklin Avenue in a rural part of the county. The Butler County Sheriff's Office was called by someone who said a man was shooting inside their home. Troopers and Butler County deputies responded.
Iowa DCI said a trooper made contact with a man carrying a firearm that matched the description given by the 911 caller. This then escalated into both firing their weapons. The man then retreated inside the home.
The Iowa State Patrol Tactical Team was called and was able to safely remove the people inside the home. Afterward, a crisis negotiator was called in.
