PEORIA, Ill. – The first major snowstorm of the season is expected to arrive this weekend.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Peoria region, starting at midnight on Saturday and lasting until Sunday at 6:00 A.M.

Ryan Knutsvig of the National Weather Service office in Lincoln says between 9-12” to fall in the Peoria area by the time the storm ends on Sunday morning. The snow is expected to be heavy at times because of moisture in the system bringing the snow.

Knutsvig says the main concern is having people avoid traveling as best as they can.

“If you can avoid travel during that period on Saturday until the roads can be clear and driving is a little more safe, that would be something to consider, if your travel can be changed,” Knutsvig said.
