PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Thanksgiving week is proving to be one of the busiest moviegoing periods of the year.

Here in Central Illinois, staffers at AMC Theatres said they’ve seen big crowds.

They said new releases are driving people back to the big screen.

Films like Zootopia 2, Wicked: For Good, and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, along with special holiday programming, are attracting crowds.

Many families tell 25News they’re using the holiday break to spend time together away from home.

The Costa family watched the second Wicked film, taking advantage that both parents were not at work, and wanted to enjoy time with their children.

AMC expects steady crowds through the long weekend as more families are looking for a simple, affordable way to celebrate the holiday.
