Quinte West is extending the Waterfront Trail along the Bay of Quinte after receiving $2.16 million in federal funding and committing $1.54 million in city funds.
Bay of Quinte Liberal member of Parliament Chris Malette and Mayor Jim Harrison on Friday made the announcement in a news conference in the city’s council chamber.
A joint news release quoted Malette as saying the federal investment demonstrates the government’s commitment to local infrastructure.
The paved extension is intended for “car-free travel for pedestrians and cyclists between Centennial and Bain Parks,” the release stated. It will include a gazebo, bike racks, accessible picnic tables, a bike repair station, solar lighting, and trail markers, with new trees to be planted for shade. No completion date was announced.
