A Thanksgiving night shooting in Upstate New York left a woman wounded and the suspected gunman dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Saratoga County deputies were called around 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, to a home on Consaul Road in the Town of Galway for a report of a woman who had been shot, according to sheriff’s officials.
The 54-year-old victim fled to a nearby house for help before first responders arrived. Deputies secured the scene so EMS could treat her, and she was later airlifted to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Investigators initially received conflicting reports about the whereabouts of the suspect, a 63-year-old man. Some callers indicated he might have barricaded himself inside the home, while others reported he could have fled into the woods.
Special Operations teams from Saratoga County and New York State Police were deployed, along with drone units from multiple agencies. The suspect was later found dead on the property from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Galway Fire, Galway EMS, Saratoga Springs Fire, and Life Net. Police departments in Mechanicville, Waterford, and Ballston Spa handled active calls during the response.
The suspected gunman had not been publicly identified as of Friday, Nov. 28.
