LA JUNTA, Colo. (KKTV) - Firefighters are reminding the public to be careful throwing away ashes after a fire sparked in a garage Thanksgiving night.

La Junta firefighters responded to a house in the 1800 block of West 4th Street on the outskirts of town just before 10:30 p.m.

“Upon arrival, moderate smoke and fire was showing from a detached two-car garage,” the fire department wrote in a social media post on the incidence.

Crews immediately got to work getting water on the fire and had the upper hand within minutes.

“Cross lays were pulled, and crews made a quick offensive attack. The fire was knocked down on the inside of the garage, and crews worked on the exterior of the garage to extinguish the fire,” the fire department said.
