While heading abroad for a holiday can be a fantastic way to spend a summer, there's actually more than you'd think right on our doorstep in the UK if you're willing to put the drive in. From the shores of Wastwater in the Lake District to the rocky peaks of Snowdonia, the UK is home to some fantastic scenery that's best experienced as a road trip.

I embarked one such road trip back in 2022, undertaking Scotland's North Coast 500 route in my beaten up 2004 Ford Fiesta. It was one of the most memorable trips I've ever been on, made even more adventurous due to the ageing nature of my car embarking on the 1,000 mile round trip from Newcastle.
