The Bald Mountain Stewardship Project over the summer, its fifth summer of hands-on work, has developed 90 additional acres of tree skiing for Sun Valley Resort skiers and snowboarders as part of a thinning project with a price tag of just under $1.5 million.

The Stewardship Project was created in response to wildfires that threatened Bald Mountain in 2007 and 2013. Its stated goal is to “improve forest health, reduce fire risk and preserve the recreational experience on and around Bald Mountain.”

The U.S. Forest Service, the National Forest Foundation, Sun Valley Resort, the Spur Foundation, the Wood River Women’s Foundation and individual community members have come together to fund the project

The expansion created by the tree thinning will open up four new distinct runs:
