CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. — Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputies and other first responders rescued a man who fell while hiking near Ainsworth State Park Thursday afternoon. He suffered serious injuries.
The man called 911 around 3:51 p.m. to report he had fallen. Based on a preliminary investigation, he hiked nearly a mile off trail when he tried to cross a creek, according to MCSO. The ground was unstable and gave way like a "small landslide," MCSO said. The sheriff's office believes the man fell down a 15-foot embankment and was covered by large rocks.
MCSO's Green Hornets, a specialized team of deputies trained for wilderness-related rescues, reached the injured hiker around 5:25 p.m. Due to his injuries and his off-trail location, MCSO requested help from a U.S. Coast Guard helicopt
