MORTON ( 25News Now ) - The Morton Fire Department said a local auto shop that caught fire Thanksgiving morning is a total loss.
Fire Chief Justin Hale said in a release that the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused the large inferno, first noticed about 10 a.m. by people who live and work in the area.
Heavy black smoke high above could be seen for miles above Dan Kniep’s Complete Auto & Motor Sports at 4001 West Jackson Street.
Hale said no one was hurt.
Owner Dan Kniep said the business was closed for Thanksgiving. He told 25News he’s been in business for 30 years, about the last five years at the West Jackson Street location.
Morton firefighters were aided by crews from East Peoria, Washington, Pekin, Deer Creek, and Tremont.
