A recent report from the Dalton Police Department shows the city is becoming slightly safer overall, with most major crime categories trending below the five-year average.

Police Chief Cliff Cason presented the department’s annual crime and crash statistics to the Public Safety Commission, highlighting both areas of improvement and concerns.

Police Chief Cliff Cason gave a written and oral summary of the Crime and Crash Statistical Reports for the month of September 2025.

Cason reported there were 59 Part 1 crimes (i.e. homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, arson) in September compared to 65 in September 2024, a decrease of approximately 9.23% and there were 56 violent crimes year-to-date 2025 compared to 51, an increase of 12%.
