British Airways, easyJet and Wizz Air passengers could face delays and cancellations this weekend after Airbus identified a software issue affecting a “significant number” of its A320 planes.

The manufacturer said that intense solar radiation “may corrupt data critical to the functioning of flight controls”. Engineers reportedly discovered the problem after a JetBlue flight from Cancún in Mexico to Newark, New Jersey, on 30 October suffered a sharp loss of altitude, injuring several passengers.

Changing the software will affect up to 6,000 planes, Airbus said. EasyJet and WizzAir warned that some of their flights this weekend could be delayed or cancelled. New Feature
