OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The holiday season brings joy and family time for many, but it can also increase stress levels that impact heart health.

First Alert 6’s Maria Cade spoke with Shannon Hilaire from the American Heart Association about five things we can do during the holidays to feel less stressed.

Hilaire said the organization sees an uptick in cardiovascular events every holiday season. She said this could be because people are not eating well, not resting and not taking care of their bodies during the busy time.

“Really, we’re super stressed,” Hilaire said. “So the first thing that we like to think and guide people towards this holiday season is at least attempt to stress less. We like to say, give yourself space and some grace this holiday season.”
