Value City Furniture plans to close seven of its locations across Michigan by early next year and is offering discounts on all in-store merchandise.

The closures are part of a recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by Value City's parent company, Columbus, Ohio-based American Signature Inc. American Signature also owns the American Signature Furniture brand.

Affected Michigan stores are in Lansing, Portage, Ann Arbor, Clinton Township, Dearborn, New Baltimore and Novi.

They account for half of the company's overall store footprint in Michigan — and are part of 33 stores nationwide listed for closing and advertising sales on everything in stock, according to the company's website and bankruptcy documents.
