ATLANTIC CITY — City Council on Tuesday approved a $6,666 emergency appropriation to fix a stretch of malfunctioning streetlights along Atlantic Avenue — a problem that threatened to leave both motorists and some of the city's holiday decorations in the dark.

Atlantic City Council last week awarded a contract to South State Inc. of Bridgeton to pave Atlantic Avenue as part of a multimillion-dollar improvement project, the city said.
