As December gets underway, Alabama is seeing a split in temperature trends . Part of North Alabama may slip into slightly below-normal temperatures this week. At the same time, central and southern areas are expected to hold near or even a bit above seasonal averages, according to the latest outlook from the National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center.
Large portions of the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northern Plains are gearing up for colder-than-normal conditions as an early-season chill settles in. Meteorologists say this isn't the main event, it's more like an opening act, with the coldest Arctic air still bottled up to the north.
