MADISON, (WKOW) — Starbucks workers rallied on State Street in the cold Friday, demanding a fair contract as part of the "No Contract, No Coffee" pledge.

The protest is part of a larger movement, with workers across Madison joining over 1,000 baristas nationwide in the "Red Cup Rebellion" strike that began on Nov. 13.

Shift supervisor Joanna Weir explained that negotiations stalled last fall despite some progress.

"We actually hammered out over 30 stipulations in our contract, but we were stalled on the economic portion of it. The company refused to offer anything more than 1%, which is 30 cents," Weir said.

Weir expressed that the decision to strike was difficult, but workers felt compelled to act.
