A shooting involving a contracted security officer at U.S. Coast Guard housing in Novato prompted a shelter-in-place order there Thanksgiving night that has since been lifted, Coast Guard officials said Friday.

Novato police initially issued an alert shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday about “an altercation between US Coast Guard Security and an unknown suspect” that led to residents sheltering in place in the Bolling, Marin Valley and Coast Guard housing areas of southern Novato. The Coast Guard housing site in Novato consists of 121 housing units at the former Hamilton Army Airfield.
Police said the shelter-in-place orders had been lifted as of 10:30 p.m.
