BELFAST, Maine (WABI) - The Belfast Curling Club has been around since 1959, and over the years their youth club has come and gone.
“Probably when I was in junior high, high school, they had, I think, the rumor is they had about 50 kids here. We took over, we took it over about three years ago. We started with four, and now we have a total of 17 kids,” said Paul Lawrence, chair of the youth curling committee.
“Curling is a great sport for kids. It doesn’t require a particular skill set. You know, strength doesn’t matter. Men curl against women, and It’s a level playing field,” said Lawrence.
“Biggest thing about curling is nobody rides the bench. So every member on a team will play. We run this program. Our youngest is 8 years old and our oldest is 16. But this club does have wheelchair
