Tunkas Bolivian Baked Goods will open its first brick-and-mortar location, transitioning from a food truck operation to a 911-square-foot restaurant space in northern New Jersey.
The bakery specializes in artisanal Bolivian street foods, with a focus on salteñas, traditional meat pies featuring a sweet, crispy exterior and savory, brothy filling.
The dish presents a culinary challenge, as bakers must prevent the liquid filling from leaking while baking at 500 degrees, contributing to the rarity of salteñerías outside Bolivia.
Tunkas currently operates as a food truck in the East Orange area. The new location will occupy a space previously held by Rush Bowls at The Livingston Town Center in Livingston.
