OAKLAND, Maine — The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office announced Friday that a propane gas leak that found an ignition source likely caused the explosion that destroyed a home on Lakeview Drive on Thanksgiving Day.
The blast injured 66-year-old Cliff Hannon, president of the Waterville Sunrise Rotary Club . Hannon remains hospitalized at Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.
Shawn Marquis, a close friend of Hannon for decades, described the blast.
"We were about a mile from here at my son's house up the road for Thanksgiving dinner, and we heard this horrendous explosion," Marquis said.
Samantha Gray, who lives next door to the destroyed home, said the blast's force also shattered windows throughout her home.
