The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 7:17 p.m. on Friday for lake effect snow until 8:15 p.m. for Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie, Schenectady, Saratoga, Albany and Rensselaer counties.

"At 7:11 p.m., a lake effect snow band was along a line from Ilion to Scotia to North Adams, Massachusetts," explains the weather service.

This includes the following highways: Interstate 88 between exits 24 and 25. Interstate 90 between exits 8 and 30. Interstate 890 between exits 1a and 9. Interstate 87 between exits 24 and 7, and between exits 8A and 10. Interstate 787 between exits 5 and 9.

Expect lake effect snow in Duanesburg, Delanson, Rotterdam, Altamont, Albany, Guilderland, Colonie, Troy, Watervliet, Rensselaer, Menands, Loudonville, West Sand Lake, Wynantskill, Wyants
