AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - An Amarillo veteran is turning his own grief into a message of comfort for families walking through loss.

Matthew Reed, a veteran, nurse, father and husband, published a book titled The Remember Book .

It’s a project he says was born from years of experiences that shaped him both in service and at home.

Reed wrote the book for his children after his father was murdered in 2018, hoping to give them a way to understand their loss while holding onto the parts of their grandpa that made him special.

“It’s really meant to be a medium between adults and children, especially after suffering a loss for them to kind of share those memories together,” said Reed. “My dad was murdered in 2018, and I really struggled to talk to my kids about it. It was detrimental to our
