A potential update to the city’s six-decade-old homestead food operation ordinances — after city health officials told a resident to stop selling canned pickles from his home in August — is one step closer to becoming reality.

The aldermanic Committee on Public Safety, Health and Traffic discussed the topic earlier this month with Phil Alexakos , deputy public health director for the city, in the wake of what many have dubbed “Picklegate.”

Alderman Joe Kelly Levasseur requested the ordinance update after Daniel Mowery of Holt Avenue received a cease-and-desist letter from city officials dated Aug. 15 warning him of potential fines or a date in court for his pickle operation.
