WAIKIKI, Hawaii (Island News) -- Police arrested a man for allegedly robbing a restaurant at gunpoint in the Waikiki area on Thursday night.

The armed robbery took place at Kayak Cafe on Ala Moana Boulevard at 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27. Police said a 36-year-old man entered the closed restaurant where there were two employees inside, and then pointed a handgun at them.

One of the employees was able to escape, while the second employee was assaulted by the suspect. The suspect then stole her belongings.

Police officers arrived at the scene while the suspect was still inside of the restaurant and arrested him. He was taken into custody for two counts of first-degree robbery.

The suspect's charges in this case are pending further investigation.
