A humanoid robot has made history by walking a remarkable distance. The AgiBot A2, developed by the Chinese robotics company AgiBot, has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance walked by a humanoid robot. From November 10 to 13, A2 walked 66.04 miles, starting from Jinji Lake in Suzhou and finishing at the North Bund area in Shanghai. This distance is equivalent to more than two and a half marathons.
The robot's journey included navigating complex routes through urban areas, national highways, and bridges. It faced various challenges, such as transitioning from day to night and operating in low-light conditions. AgiBot highlighted that A2 was able to run continuously without shutting down during the entire trek.
Standing over 5 feet tall and weighing more than 150 pounds, A2 is designed for natural human-robot interactions. According to AgiBot, the robot is suitable for various roles, including marketing, customer service, and event presentations. A2 is equipped with AI capabilities that allow it to engage in real conversations in multiple languages, assisting with work tasks.
Videos released by AgiBot showcase A2's interactive features, including blinking and winking through an LED-powered face display. The robot has also been seen performing tasks like serving coffee and participating in musical performances. At the conclusion of its historic walk, A2 expressed enthusiasm for future challenges, stating, "I look forward to taking on more challenges in the future! See you next time!"
AgiBot was established in 2023 with the goal of creating general-purpose robots powered by artificial intelligence. The company did not respond to requests for further comments regarding the record-setting achievement. The successful completion of this journey demonstrates the capabilities of the AgiBot A2 and highlights the advancements in robotics technology in China.
